For existing installations

If WPBridge Studio is already installed and authorized on your WordPress site, direct mode may be configured using the MCP URL shown in its settings. No installer is distributed from this website.

Follow the built-in connection guide

1. For an existing installation, open Settings → WPBridge Studio.
2. Enable direct mode and save; HTTPS is required.
3. Copy the MCP URL shown in settings.
4. Click Open ChatGPT connection setup and add a custom MCP connection using that URL.
5. Select OAuth and Dynamic Client Registration, then authorize from ChatGPT.
6. Approve while logged into WordPress; select the connection in a new chat and verify site identity.

Installation does not authorize access automatically. The setup button opens ChatGPT, where the customer completes linking. Custom connections must be available on their ChatGPT account. Public directory publication is pending.

Which OAuth settings do I use?

Select OAuth and Dynamic Client Registration. Request wordpress and offline_access; include offline_access as a base scope so refresh access is requested. Approve through the site’s supported WordPress administrator authorization flow. Direct mode does not require the separately hosted Studio customer account or its password.

What is included in the free direct mode?

The published direct-mode free allowance is 20 tool calls per authorized user per UTC day, subject to the current plugin configuration. Paid hosted purchases do not automatically unlock direct-mode paid licensing; that integration is pending. The public free package has no owner-domain exceptions.

How do I verify the connection?

Ask the Studio app to call list_sites and site_status. Confirm the returned site URL, user_id, read_only and daily_request_limit. Begin with read-only enabled. When changes are enabled, publishing and deletion still require the authenticated user’s native WordPress permissions.

Is direct WordPress MCP different from hosted WPBridge Studio?

Yes. In direct mode, the WordPress plugin provides the MCP/OAuth endpoint from your site. A personal AI-client connection is configured to use that endpoint. In the hosted model, your account connects authorized sites through the Studio dashboard and uses its hosted tool-call plan.

Do not authorize one mode while intending to use the other. Compare the hosted installation guide before choosing.

What does a working WordPress AI connection prove?

Our verified WordPress MCP test documents real site identity, authenticated REST reads, route discovery and saved revision history. It was conducted with WPBridge Studio’s owner-authorized Website Admin connection, so it does not independently certify that your ChatGPT account supports direct-mode OAuth. Confirm direct-mode compatibility using your own site’s MCP URL before making changes.

Test your direct connection safely

1. Keep the WordPress companion set to read-only for the first trial.
2. Open the intended AI-client connection and inspect its discovered tools.
3. Request site_status and verify that the response identifies the expected WordPress hostname.
4. Read a known site item or the authorized user’s identity. Compare the returned ID or title with WordPress.
5. Only after read tests succeed, decide whether writing is needed. Use a disposable staging draft and read it back after the save.

Direct mode and newer MCP registration methods

Some AI clients use the 2026 MCP authorization discovery flow, which prefers Client ID Metadata Documents; others still offer Dynamic Client Registration. The current direct WordPress instructions describe the Studio companion’s documented OAuth/Dynamic Client Registration flow. A newer client menu is not proof that this plugin supports every newer discovery or registration mechanism.

Do I need to deploy Node.js or a VPS application?

No separate Node.js MCP service is part of this WordPress plugin route. Your WordPress installation and HTTPS hosting must still support the companion and its endpoints.

Does a hosted lifetime purchase remove direct-mode limits?

No. Hosted entitlements do not automatically activate paid direct-mode licensing. Check the current hosted package terms before purchasing.

Does ChatGPT availability depend on my account?

Yes. Creating and using a custom remote MCP connection depends on the AI client’s product features and eligibility, which may change.
