WordPress MCP AI Clients: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini
Studio exposes WordPress through MCP and OAuth. Each AI client gets its own authorization; your WordPress permissions remain authoritative.
Current compatibility
| Client | Studio status | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Separate direct owner installation tested earlier; this public hosted app still needs client verification. | Personal app setup |
| Claude remote connectors | Remote MCP configuration available; live client trial still required. | Claude guide |
| Gemini CLI | Configured fixed loopback callback and local protocol tests; live CLI trial still required. | Gemini guide |
| Gemini web custom apps | Google registration supported; OAuth and a live WordPress tool call still need confirmation. | Use the client-supplied callback. |
One site, separate grants
Add only exact client callbacks in Settings → WPBridge Studio → Additional AI clients. A client registering with the server cannot grant itself site access. An administrator must approve its OAuth request. Do not paste tokens or WordPress login passwords into a conversation.
Changing AI clients does not combine their external subscriptions or bypass their usage limits. Studio’s hosted account allowance remains shared across that account’s connected workspaces.
Which AI client should you connect to WordPress?
Short answer: Choose the client you already use, then verify that your account supports an authenticated remote MCP connection. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini have separate app-connection settings, authorization grants and product limitations. WPBridge Studio does not include a subscription to any of these services.
| Client | Who should consider it? | Read the setup guide |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Site owners using conversational content review or authenticated WordPress REST tasks | ChatGPT plugin installation |
| Claude | Teams whose Claude account supports remote custom connectors and OAuth | Claude and WordPress setup |
| Gemini CLI | Developers comfortable configuring MCP in a local CLI settings file | Gemini CLI guide |
| Gemini web | Eligible personal Google Account holders who have access to custom connected apps | Web eligibility and setup |
Use the compatibility status table above as a release-specific snapshot, not a promise of uninterrupted access or universal client support.
Direct WordPress mode or a hosted WPBridge Studio workspace?
Direct mode runs the MCP and OAuth endpoints on the WordPress installation. It suits a site owner who prefers managing that connection at the site. Hosted Studio runs a customer workspace on the Studio service, with accounts, verified sites and a shared hosted request allowance. A hosted package does not automatically activate paid direct licensing.
Compare the direct setup with the hosted installation walkthrough. For each path, confirm the endpoint hostname before authorizing a client.
Minimum checks for every AI client
- Confirm the intended Studio connection and MCP endpoint.
- Authorize only the exact client and allowed callback.
- List the connected WordPress sites and verify the target URL.
- Read
/wp/v2/users/meor an equivalent supported status operation. - Read a known post or page and compare its returned ID with the expected record.
- If writing is needed, test a disposable staging draft after reviewing WordPress permissions and enabled access modes.
Use the error guide if an authorization, permission or route check fails.
AI client compatibility FAQs
Can I use multiple AI clients with the same hosted Studio account?
The hosted model supports separate authorized client grants; tool requests share the account’s applicable allowance. Clients still enforce their own access and usage policies.
Does a connected client automatically publish WordPress posts?
No. Publishing requires explicit permission and a supported WordPress operation. Begin with a read-only test.
Is a missing client feature a WordPress plugin error?
Not necessarily. Check client eligibility, current connector support, OAuth authorization and WordPress site access separately before diagnosing the cause.
